Perfectionist Jake Humphrey reveals insecurities over performance after hosting major sporting events

As the Premier League football season kicked off at the weekend, Jake Humphrey seemed calm and collected fronting the opening game for BT Sport, pitchside at Old Trafford. But after the final whistle he headed back to London, and his wife Harriet and daughter Florence, suffering the usual twinge of disappointment. Behind the light and confident persona, it turns out the former Formula 1 host is a perfectionist. "At the BBC after every F1 race and now after every match, I go home and watch it and I will hate it," says Jake. "I will be on the train on the way home after a match FaceTiming my wife, saying 'I was rubbish today, I didn't nail it'. “I always think generally I have been rubbish. But as soon as you think you've got it nailed you get into trouble. I am my own biggest critic." Jake, 35, has tough competition when it comes to football, facing comparison with Gary Lineker on the BBC, Ed Chamberlin on Sky and Adrian Chiles on ITV.
