Google a restaurant. It’s a good bet the first thing you see is the Yelp profile. Even if you don’t read the reviews, those stars likely affect your decision.Chefs and restaurateurs know it. And they don’t like it.“I think Yelp is corrupt and I think their filtering system is garbage,” says chef Chris Holland of D’Vine Bar in Sparkill. “There are reviews on there that I know are fake and they’re still there.”Of course Yelp sees it differently.Kayleigh Winslow, a spokeswoman, says that Yelp has content guidelines clearly listed and software that sorts through reviews to highlight only the most useful and reliable reviews, marking them as recommended. Of more than 100 million reviews, 74 percent have been deemed recommended.
