RESIDENTS have objected to plans for a tiny cocktail bar next door to a pub, saying the area is so busy that it is “like living on the M25”. Freya Elliott, who runs Violets Beauty Bar in Haxby, applied for planning permission to create a cafe and cocktail bar with room for 12 customers in the unit next door to her salon. The 25-year-old, who wanted to open a cafe for some of her clients at the beauty bar, said the site would sell ‘freak shakes’ during the day and colourful cocktails in the evening. The bar would be at No3 The Courtyard, next to The Tiger Inn and behind Menzone barbers, and would open between 9am and 11pm seven days a week. Residents raised concerns about the proposals and an objection letter said: “The village has changed throughout the years. Once a quiet main street is now congested with traffic and pollution so much it is like living on the M25. “There are three public houses and three premises selling alcohol only a short distance from each other.” But Ms Elliot said she wants to open a small bar for people who do not enjoy being in large, crowded… Read full this story
