BRITISH Gas customers are being warned not to fall for fake emails from the energy company that claim they are owed a refund. The email threatens customers that their accounts will stop working within 24 hours if they don’t follow the link that’s provided. The phishing message – which claims to be signed from Dave Kiwan, Managing Director of Customer Operations – advises customers to click on the the “get your refund” link. Customers will then be directed to a website that asks them to fill in their personal details, under the impression that they will be able to get some money back. In reality, the website is actually owned and run by scammers who could use your information to hack your British Gas accounts. Giving them access to your British Gas accounts also compromises your bank details because that information is also stored on the platform.
