Nintendo has finally confirmed that the anthropomorphic town management sim Animal Crossing will be coming to its Nintendo Switch console in 2019. The news was revealed at the end of the Japanese video game giant’s Nintendo Direct video stream, which showcased the company’s upcoming games for both Switch and Nintendo 3DS. There was little information revealed on the game, but featured the famously penny-pinching tanuki Tom Nook announcing he needed to build a new town for his friends. Presumably so he can rob them blind. Recent Animal Crossing games cast you as the Mayor of a small village, which you must build, maintain and help the other villagers with their ails. The twist is that village life goes on without you, even when the console is turned off. If you return after a lengthy absence, you might find your village overgrown and a group of perturbed villagers. Most recently Nintendo released Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for mobiles, which is a spin-off that sees you controlling a holiday village. It retained some of the Animal Crossing charm, but was weighed down by poorly implemented microtransactions. We don’t expect the full Animal Crossing Switch game to suffer from similar foibles.
