Apple says record-breaking £255BILLION spent in one day on App Store – after admitting iPhone sales flop

APPLE fans broke a spending record on the App Store this year – spending $322million (£255million) on New Year’s Day alone. The staggering feat comes as Apple stock fell by £44billion after the company admitted it was selling far fewer iPhones than it had hoped. Today’s announcement is likely an attempt to reassure worried investors that Apple is still going strong. According to Apple, customers set spending records on the App Store. Between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, Apple customers forked out at incredible $1.22billion (£965million) on the App Store. “The App Store had a record-breaking holiday week and New Year’s Day,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing. He continued: “The holiday week was our biggest week ever with more than $1.22billion spent on apps and games, and New Year’s Day set a new single-day record at more than $322million. “Thanks to the inspiring work of our talented developers and the support of our incredible customers around the world, the App Store finished off an outstanding 2018 and kicked off 2019 with a bang.” It’s good news at a tough time for the iPhone maker.
