The 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 15) is taking place December 7-18, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark, bringing together 110 heads of state, 15,000 senior officials and experts from 191 countries. One of the goals of COP 15 is to come to an agreement on CO2 emissions which cause the greenhouse effect. The agreement is to replace the Kyoto Protocol which will expire in 2012. The Vietnamese delegation at the conference includes almost 30 officials from ministries/sectors. During the conference, the Vietnamese delegates will take part in meetings, including those of the G77 and China. From December 16-18 Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will give speeches and at that time he will emphasize that this struggle with climate change is not optional, it is mandatory. Besides the individual efforts being made by all countries, there is a need to get together to take global action which will reduce the negative impact of climate change and make it possible for those affected to adapt. In addition, the Prime Minister will describe what Vietnam is doing to cope with climate change and the difficulties the country faces due to global warming and a rising sea.
