A joint Toyota/Subaru sports car project has been in the works for what feels like forever. Now, finally, here's the first look, a heavily production-based concept called the Toyota FT-86 set to debut this month at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Toyota FT-86 concept is the fruit of cooperation between Toyota Motor Company and Subaru, and as such will wear a common chassis and some degree of engine commonality, at the least a 2.0 liter, four cylinder boxer engine dubbed the "C-45 Boxer" and making between 200 and 250 HP will power the rear wheels through a manual six speed transmission, and get this — no hybrid system. Saints be praised. Advertisement exciting, we're so confused here. The interior is obviously all show-car glam and may serve as direction, but we'll be shocked if there are many zippers on the production car's dash. We're men enough to admit that combined with the recently unveiled 2010 Toyota 4Runner, we're about to shed a tear over what looks to be the return of … [Read more...] about Toyota FT-86 Concept: Behold, The New AE86

The 2018 Kia Sportage SX Is a Great Daily Driver, But Gas Mileage Leaves a Lot to Be Desired
If you put every standard-issue crossover on the market right now into a blender, you’d have a broken blender. But if you did it figuratively, you’d end up with something like the 2018 Kia Sportage SX. It’s simple, welcoming and just fancy enough to make you feel good. Just don’t expect it to be outstanding in every way. (Full disclosure: Kia had a Sportage SX dropped off at my apartment with a full tank of gas for me do use for a week. This was last year, before I was dealing with some medical issues, so that’s why it’s a 2018. Still, enjoy.) Most modern Kia reviews are obligated to start with something like “Kias are way better than they were 20 years ago.” And yeah–modern Kias are a far cry from the stapled-together soap box cars of the ’90s that seemed predestined to end up as pizza delivery beaters. That said, the original Sportage is the only early American-market Kia I have to admit I kind of miss. Looking at this … [Read more...] about The 2018 Kia Sportage SX Is a Great Daily Driver, But Gas Mileage Leaves a Lot to Be Desired
Toyota FT-86 Concept: The AE86 Is Back In The Red, Metallic Flesh

Toyota FT-86 Concept: Design, Dissected

The 2018 Buick Regal GS Is The 310 HP Sporty Luxury Hatchback America Needs
The last time Buick launched a Regal GS, the brand wowed us all by offering a six-speed manual transmission. Now, for 2018, that option is gone, but there’s more power, more gears, a design that doesn’t look like a fancied-up Malibu, and most importantly a hatchback. We heard rumors that the 2018 Regal GS would get a 310 horsepower V6 and an eight-speed auto. It turns out, the first part of those rumors is true: the engine, a 3.6-liter V6, does indeed make 310 ponies and also produces 282 lb-ft of torque. Advertisement That power, contrary to the second part of the whispering we heard, gets sent through a nine-automatic, which then moves that power through a standard all-wheel drive system with an “active twin clutch” rear differential. Add unique front and rear fascias, Brembo brakes, a sport-tuned exhaust, 19-inch wheels, and Continuous Damping Control (which Buick says can “adjust suspension damping up to 500 times per second,”) and you … [Read more...] about The 2018 Buick Regal GS Is The 310 HP Sporty Luxury Hatchback America Needs
