We're excited for the new, compact 2015 Jeep Renegade. But, will it go off-road? We called up Jeep's chief engineer and asked. He gave us exclusive, never-before-seen specs and details. The Renegade is an all-new Jeep, based on the parent company's new "Small Wide" platform, also used by the Fiat 500L. It's scheduled to go on-sale this December. Advertisement We're excited about it because, as a subcompact or "B Segment" vehicle, it promises to provide the frugality and urban practicality of a small car with the adventure capability of, well…a Jeep. Living in a city — Los Angeles — a small car makes a ton of sense for me. I need good fuel economy, a car that's easy to park and, since I spend all my money on motorcycles and camping, a low price is a big help too. But, I also spend virtually every weekend out in the mountains or desert, so I need a car that can make it down a difficult dirt road that may be washed out, full of deep sand or covered in slippery … [Read more...] about Will The 2015 Jeep Renegade Be Any Good Off-Road?

We give a lot of attention to XBMC here, and with just cause. It's an open-source, cross-platform, highly-customizable media center solution that outperforms just about every commercial option out there. Here's how you can make it even better. If you've played around with any commercial media centers or extenders, you've probably quickly realized how clunky and inelegant the user interface and experience is. Sure once the movie is playing and you're no longer staring down the interface all is well, but prior to getting to the actual showtime the menus are ugly and the navigation is kludgy. Advertisement Yesterday Adam detailed how to set up a silent, standalone XBMC media center on the cheap—and that's a good starting point. The "out of box" experience with XBMC is fantastic, but even better than that, it's extremely customizable. You can alter menus, vary the display method, and completely swap out the skin for a fresh new look. We've reviewed some great XBMC skins and shown … [Read more...] about Turbo Charge Your New XBMC Installation
For a brief moment there, I felt like James Bond: drifting my Aston Martin with studded tires across a frozen lake. Then I remembered I wasn’t out there chasing down an evil villain or solving a serious crime that put the whole world in danger. I was following a part-time driving instructor named Paul, who was in a ’98 Corolla with 190,000 miles and dents the size of a desk lamp. More importantly, I didn’t have James Bond’s suave, self-assured attitude. Instead, I was convinced that I was going to fall through the ice, and I was going to die, and they wouldn’t find me until the spring, when Bill and Bob’s Vermont Towing would show up at the lake and casually muse about how “Gosh darnit, we haven’t pulled out an Aston Martin before” as they extracted my fish-eaten body from the lake bed. You may remember last week, when I told you I was going on an 800-mile road trip from Philadelphia to Vermont and back in order to test out some … [Read more...] about I Drove My Aston Martin On a Frozen Lake In Vermont
Top Gear, which I’m guessing is probably one of the most pirated shows, ever, has decided not to air on BBC America stateside for another two months, despite already playing on British televisions. I’m sure everybody stateside will be respectful and patient about this. Advertisement Season 26 of Top Gear will premiere on BBC America on April 25th, at 9 p.m. EST, two months after its premiere on the BBC last Sunday, Feb. 17th. Here’s how the press release describes season 26: Five hour-long episodes see Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, Rory Reid and The Stig discovering the very best supercar alternatives to the traditional family estate car from Ferrari and Porsche, racing to the top of a mountain in a pair of the smallest 4x4’s in the UK, risking life and limb in Tuk-Tuk’s across Sri-Lanka on both land and sea, measuring just how scary the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is with the with the new-fangled gadget the ‘Fearometer 3000’, and finding out if you … [Read more...] about The Latest Season of
I once went to a spin class so difficult I threw up in a trashcan outside the studio immediately after stretching, then renounced indoor cycling altogether. It’s with that memory firmly burned in my brain that I am reluctant to criticizeAmy Schumer for allegedly threatening her personal trainer with legal action over some difficult workouts. Apparently it was all a “joke,” but I would fully understand if it were not. E! Online says Schumer invited trainer AJ Fisher onto her podcast on Tuesday and brought up her workouts, joking that they were so intense, “I threatened you near constantly As the Snatched star Advertisement Though Schumer says this was just a prank, I cannot imagine it was much fun for Fisher to read the letter initially, and apparently she did freak out for a minute. “ Her career is not over, of course, and it seems like she’s still training Schumer, so I suppose there’s no love lost there. Hopefully Fisher’s cE! … [Read more...] about This Is a Pretty Good Use of a Cease and Desist, Actually
