Right around the time Toyota asked everyone to stop calling it boring, the company gave a startup called Cartivator more than $350,000 for its “flying car” that’s supposed to be commercialized by 2020. But the flying car is actually more like a drone, and it, um, doesn’t work very well so far. The flying drone-car made several attempts at flight with basketballs attached to the bottom of it to soften the crash landings, according to the Associated Press. The AP reports that part of the car’s frame later broke, damaging a propeller and forcing an early end to the test. Advertisement Here’s one such crash landing, via an AP reporter: Even if the startup can get this thing to stay in the air, it’ll be a cramped flight. The 30 volunteers on the project claim that it’ll have a top speed of 62 mph at up to around 33 feet off of the ground, and that this drone-car is the “world’s smallest flying car” at 9.5 feet long and … [Read more...] about This ‘Flying Car’ Toyota Invested In Will Totally Be Ready By 2020
We're excited for the new, compact 2015 Jeep Renegade. But, will it go off-road? We called up Jeep's chief engineer and asked. He gave us exclusive, never-before-seen specs and details. The Renegade is an all-new Jeep, based on the parent company's new "Small Wide" platform, also used by the Fiat 500L. It's scheduled to go on-sale this December. Advertisement We're excited about it because, as a subcompact or "B Segment" vehicle, it promises to provide the frugality and urban practicality of a small car with the adventure capability of, well…a Jeep. Living in a city — Los Angeles — a small car makes a ton of sense for me. I need good fuel economy, a car that's easy to park and, since I spend all my money on motorcycles and camping, a low price is a big help too. But, I also spend virtually every weekend out in the mountains or desert, so I need a car that can make it down a difficult dirt road that may be washed out, full of deep sand or covered in slippery … [Read more...] about Will The 2015 Jeep Renegade Be Any Good Off-Road?
Brad flies private jets for a variety of clients, but despite the flashy nature of his job he has a pretty modest car. He is looking for something that can “blend in” a little better with some of the fancier rides that show up at the airport. However, he is working with a reasonable budget of around $30,000. What car should he buy? (Welcome back to What Car Should You Buy ? Where we give real people real advice about buying cars. ) Advertisement Here is the scenario - I fly people around in private jets. As you can imagine, passengers arrive to the hangar in some shockingly nice vehicles, parking next to my taupe 2006 Toyota Corolla. Inevitably I get some good natured ribbing. My regular passengers drive lifted Shelby and Roush-tuned Ford pickups. There’s also a smattering of Ford Raptors, top-trim Lincoln Navigators, and maybe a Jeep or Land Rover. The problem is 1.) I only have $25-$30k to spend 2.) I have no real need for a truck or full-size SUV. Is … [Read more...] about I Fly Private Jets And I Need A Car That Blends In With High Rollers For $30,000! The first trailer for the upcoming James Bond movie, No Time To Die, will be released Wednesday morning, but the little 15-second teaser reel that came out last night already features one incredible motorcycle stunt that was mostly done for real. No Time To Die is the fifth and supposedly final James Bond movie for Bond actor Daniel Craig. It also happens to feature more notable vehicles than any previous Craig Bond movie, featuring the new Land Rover Defender, the Jaguar XF and possibly a Jaguar I-Pace, a Toyota Land Cruiser, four Aston Martins including the DB5, V8 Vantage, DBS Superleggera and Valhalla supercar, and some motorcycles. Advertisement Four of those cars, the Defender, Land Cruiser, DB5 and DBS Superleggera, all feature in the short 15-second teaser for the main trailer, but it’s the motorcycle action that really stands out.
