I Used to Want to Drive Across America. Ya Know, See Some America and Shit. I Have Three Kids Now. *CENSOR* That.

There was a time when nothing sounded more romantic to me (in the fun and adventure sense of the word) than driving across America and seeing all that she had to offer. I grew up as an Army brat overseas in Europe, so I’ve been to most of the European countries that were a simple hop, skip or drive away. I remember when my mother bought a brand new Volvo and she was told to keep the I vividly remember the moment she hit that threshold, too. I was asleep in the car and then all of a sudden the car accelerated at such a rapid pace, like we were blasting off, that I knew she must have just hit the 1,000 mile mark. It was 100 miles per hour back home from there; my mother is a speed demon. Advertisement When we moved back to America in 1993, I remember thinking to myself that I wanted to see all sorts of places in this country. I had an odd fascination with Rhode Island for years and Seattle was very high up on my list of places to visit. It wasn’t until I got to college … [Read more...] about I Used to Want to Drive Across America. Ya Know, See Some America and Shit. I Have Three Kids Now. *CENSOR* That.

Tons of New Rumors About Villains, Aliens, and Cameos in the

Tom Hiddleston reveals what he wants Loki to receive in Thor 2. The Amazing Spider-Man might be ridiculously short. James Cameron might partner with China for Avatar 2. Will James Bond be grappling with depression in Skyfall? Plus lots more on Prometheus and Men in Black 3! Spoilers from here on out! Top image from The Avengers. Star Trek 2 TrekMovie has posted their own take on a bunch of recent Star Trek rumors. They have joined the chorus of news sources confirming that Leonard Nimoy has in fact been convinced to return one last time as the original Spock. And they also say that Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch is definitely playing Khan in the movie, though this will not simply be a rehash of the original Star Trek episode "Space Seed" (or Wrath of Khan, for that matter, though of course that would be really hard to rehash, without rehashing "Space Seed" first). Also, Klingons will definitely show up in this movie, after being cut out of J.J. Abrams's first Star Trek — … [Read more...] about Tons of New Rumors About Villains, Aliens, and Cameos in the

With Kareem Abdul-Jabbar behind the wheel,

The time has finally come for the episode we have all been waiting for: the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar-written episode of Veronica Mars. Yes, despite the killer basketball reference in “Losing Streak,” this is actually the one. Technically, an important one, as a piece of the puzzle—the identity of the Sea Sprite Bomber—is officially revealed and the search for the serial bomber begins. While Abdul-Jabbar guest-starred on an episode of iZombie earlier this season, both he and his episode co-writer Raymond Obstfeld are new to the Spondoolieverse on this front (and to television writing, in general). However, you wouldn’t be able to tell from this episode. It’s anticlimactic and obvious, but Big Dick Casablancas was responsible for the Sea Sprite bombing. And while Clyde refused to take any part in that, he did tie up the loose end of Perry Walsh (aka P.W.), which finally answers the question of if he’s capable of that type of violence. (He is.) Despite … [Read more...] about With Kareem Abdul-Jabbar behind the wheel,

Fighting with loved ones over art

Yesterday, my wife and I took our daughter to see Toy Story 3. I thought it was great. She thought it was “unremarkable.” We have been bitterly debating its merits ever since. The last time we had a disagreement this acrimonious was when she declared her hatred of the Beastie Boys. Until then, it never occurred to me that anyone could dislike the Beastie Boys. What pop-cultural disagreement has come between you and a loved one? —Jeremy Tasha Robinsonseriously disagree. It’s far more common for one of us to like a movie while the other is indifferent than it is for us to actually have sharply opposed opinions. But once in a long while, something like M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady In The Water comes along. To be fair to the boyfriend, rather than trying to encapsulate his positive opinion of that ill-conceived, shambling, ridiculous, self-important, incoherent piece of crap myself, I IMed him and asked him to do it. He messaged back “It captured the flow … [Read more...] about Fighting with loved ones over art
