The world of Lululemon blogs — yes, they exist; they're like J. Crew blogs but om-ier — is crackling with stories and images of see-through yoga pants in colors other than black and purchased up to a year before the recalled March 1 batch. Other posts highlight problems with Lululemon's fabric dyeing that led to bleeding and color transfer. And in 2007, the New York Times tested fabric that Lululemon was marketing as made from one quarter seaweed and found it contained no seaweed at all, and was chemically indistinguishable from cotton. The app formerly- China’s Bytedanceacquired Musical.ly in 2017announced that it was rebranding Musical.ly as TikTok, an existing app with a short-form video format. All three companies are named as defendants in the class-action lawsuit filed Tuesday in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Advertisement The complaint viewed by Gizmodo alleges that its app’s first problem was that it failed to create adequate safeguards to prevent minors from using the app. In order to create an account, the app required personally identifying information of users like their email address, phone number, username, first and last name, and a photo and bio in which they might reveal their age. On Friday, the New York Police Department, the largest police department in the US with about 34,000 officers, released its body camera policies. The NYPD held extensive public comments and met with several civil rights groups, but the policies are largely a disaster and undermine the goals of the body camera technology—accountability and transparency. The NYPD pilot program of 1,000 body cameras is set to start this spring. Hours after the policy’s release, the New York Civil Liberties Union voiced their concerns with the policy, saying it “is not sufficiently targeted at ensuring police accountability because it gives police too much control over the footage that’s collected.” Advertisement There’s a number of gaps in both transparency and accountability with the new policies.
