In this, the year 2019, two wildly popular wedding planning sites have vowed to adjust their policies surrounding the promotion of former slave plantations as wedding venues, a thing they needed to be told to do rather than just, you know, knowing they probably shouldn’t allow that to be a thing. Buzzfeed News reports that Pinterest and The Knot Worldwide—the latter includes both The Knot and WeddingWire—each decided on the change after the civil rights organization Color Of Change put pressure on the sites to, in the common parlance, knock it the fuck off. Representatives for the two companies told BuzzFeed about the proposed changes. The Knot’s plan involves “new guidelines to ensure wedding vendors on their websites don’t use language that glorifies, celebrates, or romanticizes Southern plantation history;” Chief Marketing Officer Dhanusha Sivajee told the outlet that plantations would still be eligible for placement among the wedding venue … [Read more...] about Someone had to tell The Knot and Pinterest not to promote plantation weddings

Royal Wedding Headline Tally: 20 Stories And Counting (Not Including Ours)
As one might imagine, things were absolutely out of control. First things first: Kate Middleton has been spotted. I repeat: KATE MIDDLETON HAS BEEN SPOTTED. She was getting into a car, wearing a figured dress, white blazer and wedges, outside the Goring Hotel. Unfortunately, the press appear to know she's staying there, so we hope her windows are barricaded. Meanwhile, Harry's main squeeze Chelsy Davy was spotted shopping, and obviously it has to have been for the wedding. Advertisement We know who designed the bridesmaid's dresses: Nicki Macfarlane. The stuff on her website's pretty, but then Pippa Middleton, Lady Louise Windsor, 7, the Hon. Margarita Armstrong-Jones, 8, and 3-year-olds Grace van Cutsem and Eliza Lopes will probably wear custom creations. Even though we have less than a day to wait, people are still speculating about the designer of The Gown. Now that Bruce Oldfield has admitted it's not him, people are all over the "narrowed field." Also, the fact that Kate's not … [Read more...] about Royal Wedding Headline Tally: 20 Stories And Counting (Not Including Ours)
Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates
One of the earliest jokes in Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates is one of the movie’s cleverest. After a brief cold open, the opening credits roll over images of brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) Stangle engaging in flashy, over-the-top partying antics: lots of face-pulling and slow-motion, backed by a bass-heavy party-hard pop song. A few minutes after the sequence ends, the boys are confronted by their parents (Stephen Root and Stephanie Faracy), sister Jeanie (Sugar Lyn Beard), and her fiancé Eric (Sam Richardson) about their tendency to ruin family gatherings with their codependent shenanigans, and how they must tether themselves to calming dates for Jeanie and Eric’s upcoming wedding. To support their case, they roll home-movie footage of the same gatherings glimpsed in the credit sequence, the free-spirited good times now chased with injuries, panicked screams, and at least one explosion. Mike and Dave are aghast, demanding to see the “epic … [Read more...] about Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates
The Wedding Date
If Debra Messing's old Ned And Stacey co-star Thomas Haden Church hadn't already been so perfect for the role, her Wedding Date love interest Dermot Mulroney would have been an ideal choice for the part of Paul Giamatti's coarse best friend in Sideways. He's got the requisite oily, second-hand charm, caveman good looks, and laconic slacker cadences of a low-rent Casanova, and in the C-grade romantic comedy The Wedding Date, his B-level charisma causes him to tower over his surroundings like Gulliver among the Lilliputians. A cookie-cutter comedy that crossbreeds Pretty Woman with every lucrative romance that has Wedding in its title, the film is populated by characters so miniscule in spirit, morality, and intellect that Mulroney's smooth-talking, Ivy League-educated gigolo emerges as not only a romantic guru and intellectual genius, but also a paragon of virtue and decency. Advertisement In a plot that layers contrivance upon contrivance, Messing stars as a neurotic single woman … [Read more...] about The Wedding Date
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
A romantic comedy so slight that it barely exists, My Big Fat Greek Wedding imbues a familiar Cinderella story with broad humor rooted in the sort of gregarious ethnic clan filmmakers love to contrast with stuffy WASPs. In spite of the title, the family in question has a strangely generic quality. Director Joel Zwick's follow-up to the Bronson Pinchot ESP comedy Second Sight is about Greek characters, but it could just as easily be about a Jewish, Polish, Irish, or Italian family whose colorful behavior fills its members with a curious mixture of pride and embarrassment. Making an inauspicious debut on two fronts, first-time screenwriter Nia Vardalos stars as a frustrated 30-year-old wallflower chafing under the constraints of her overbearing family, who expect nothing from her but hordes of children fathered by a proper Greek husband. Vardalos, however, has more ambitious and assimilation-minded plans, and over the course of a self-administered makeover, she morphs from a mousy, … [Read more...] about My Big Fat Greek Wedding
