Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Oscar Isaac star in the film, based on the novel by Jeff Vandermeer. The First Footage of Alex Garland’s

A movie we’ve been looking forward to for some time is Alex Garland’s Annihilation, based on the crazy, critically acclaimed Jeff VanderMeer book of the same name. Well, there’s good news and bad news. The bad news is it won’t be out until 2018. The good news is the first footage was excellent. Annihilation is the story of a team of women (Natalie Portman, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, and Jennifer Jason Leigh) who lead a group to a mysterious alien section of planet Earth. Called Area X, it’s a place many have gone to explore, but one which no one has ever come back from. Advertisement At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Paramount Pictures debuted the first footage from the film. The setting is a typical suburban house. Inside it is Natalie Portman’s character, and she’s crying. She’s lost someone and seems to be packing up or fixing the house to move out. Then, a man starts to walk up the stairs. It’s Oscar Isaac’s character, … [Read more...] about The First Footage of Alex Garland’s

For a movie that took forever to come out,

The post-Civil War Western Jane Got A Gun wastes no time getting to its premise. Early on, Jane Hammond (Natalie Portman) and her young daughter spy husband and father Bill (Noah Emmerich) approaching their modest home from a distance, on horseback. They’re excited to see him, until distress flashes across Jane’s eyes and Bill promptly slumps over and falls off his horse. It turns out he’s shot up with half a dozen bullets, just barely making it home alive. This brief sequence proceeds with an efficiency bordering on truncation; lingering a little bit on Bill’s slumped posture, or on Portman as she realizes not all is right, could have drawn out the moment effectively. Advertisement But the movie leaves little time for grace notes in its delivery of plot information. On his way home, Bill ran into a gang led by John Bishop (Ewan McGregor, sporting a dark bad-guy mustache). He escaped, but Bishop and his greasy, gnarled band of maybe-brothers are searching … [Read more...] about For a movie that took forever to come out,

The Rightest and Wrongest Spoilers of 2011!

Everyday, we sift through all the crazy rumors and speculation to bring you the morning's spoilers. In the past year, we've found some gems of real information...as well as some truly magnificent loads of nonsense. Here are the year's best. Warning: Some of these things are still spoilers! Rightest Marion Cotillard and Talia al Ghul will be in The Dark Knight Rises. Note that I am not saying that Cotillard is playing Talia in Christopher Nolan's last Batman movie, which is something we're still not 100% sure about. Here's what we know — after what felt like decades of endless rumors and speculation that the Inception actress would be playing the daughter of Ra's al Ghul, Nolan did indeed cast Cotillard in the movie...except he said she was playing Wayne Enterprises executive Miranda Tate. Of course, that didn't stop anyone from speculating that this was just a fake-out for her real role, which was only strengthened when set photos showed Cotillard apparently leading a bunch of … [Read more...] about The Rightest and Wrongest Spoilers of 2011!

The Dark Knight Rises In Entertainment Weekly's upcoming preview of the film, director Christopher Nolan confirms the movie will return to the Batcave, and the decision made by Batman and Commissioner Gordon at the end of The Dark Knight to pin Two-Face's crimes on Batman will have serious repercussions throughout the film. He also reassures everyone that Bane will be easier to understand in the full context of the film, apparently in both the vocal and thematic senses: "I think when people see the film, things will come into focus. Bane is very complex and very interesting and when people see the finished film people will be very entertained by him."
