The premiere is going to be a little strange for most viewers. There's a bit of a touring-company feel to the whole thing, a vague sense of wedding-band cover-version, especially at first. The hosts for the U. S. show - in case you're one of the four or five enthusiasts who didn't apply and therefore don't know who got your dream job - are comedian Adam Ferrara, drift champ and stunt driver Tanner Foust, and Speed Channel guy Rutledge Wood, and initially I found myself wondering if they'd ever met previously, let alone spoken to one another. There's a Stig, too, but he's introduced in such a hapless manner that you're left wondering if the other hosts even understand his function; they sort of tell you he doesn't talk, and that's about it. "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" is now "Star In A Small Car," which is a Suzuki SX4 Sportback, rustled around their very own airport track by Buzz Aldrin in its maiden voyage after a rather wooden interview. And in the weirdest deja vu moment, the … [Read more...] about Top Gear USA: First Drive

A decisive 85% of you felt that the $39,975 Iran Khodro Paykan Deluxe required a major helping of Hubba Rocks to look like a wise investment, but today's choice might be more of a dilemma. Yes, the Cimarron was a total disaster for Cadillac, diluting its brand at the worst possible time, but that makes it a historically significant car… and Pixel has found this super-original, low-mileage example in a used-car dealership with an $8,995 price tag. You might be looking at the best Cimarron on the planet here; check out Pixel's Flickr sets, then make the jump to read his comments on this fine Cadillac compact and vote in the NPOCP poll. … [Read more...] about 10K Mile ’81 Cadillac Cimarron For $8,995: Nice Price Or Crack Pipe?
It's time for Nice Price Or Crack Pipe once again, where the readers decide whether a car's seller has anything close to a grip on reality when it comes to asking price. Last time we were here, the $7,900 Chrysler Cordoba got a Nice Price thumbs-up from 48% of voters; not a majority, but the closest we've seen yet.beater Pintos clogging up the roads (now I'm having a PTSD flashback of being a helpless passenger in a Pinto driven by a very dramatic high-school girlfriend who yanked the parking brake at 80 MPH on the Nimitz Freeway- in the rain- so that the resulting loop-de-loop spinout- miraculously missing other vehicles and the guardrails and ending safely on the shoulder- would teach me a lesson about… well, I forget, so it wasn't as effective a move as she'd hoped) might rejoice that damn near every one of the things has been crushed by now, but maybe the Pinto was just ahead of its time! This example is just about the nicest Pinto you could possibly imagine: a 66K-mile … [Read more...] about Nice Price Or Crack Pipe: Restored 1973 Pinto Squire Wagon For Nearly 20 Grand?
Fully 82% of you felt that the $8,995 Cadillac Cimarron was priced way too high, so we're going to make the choice more challenging this time. Thing is, the price is $7,900. Your call! Thanks to Jordan for the tip. Welcome to Nice Price Or Crack Pipe, where you make the call on vehicle asking prices. On Monday, we saw the most one-sided vote yet, with over 92% of you judging the $41,000 VW Vanagon Syncro Westy's price tag to be ridiculously high. The Syncro is pretty cool, all right, but how about one of John Z's Irish-built machines with the PRV V6 torn out and replaced by a WarP 9 electric motor? Remember, an electric motor grunts out 100% torque at zero RPM, so this DMC-12 ought to move as well as sting-operation cocaine in '82… but well enough to have a Buy It Now price of a hundred grand?
