What Does “RN” Mean, and How Do You Use It?

Have you ever seen the short, randomly placed two-letter acronym “RN” in a text from a friend? Here’s what it means and how you can use it across a variety of internet conversations. When? “Right Now!” RN stands for “right now.” It’s used to specify an activity or status as being in the present, similar to words like “currently” or “presently.” It’s also used to ask someone what they’re currently doing, often combined with colloquial phrases like “What’s up?” or “How’s it going?” Another way RN is used is to invite someone to do an activity with you as soon as possible. For example, if you need to call someone urgently, you could message them, “Can you hop on FaceTime rn?” This implies that you want to talk to them now and not later in the day. RN is frequently used with other initialisms like WYD and HYD, which stand for “What are you doing?” and “How are you doing?”, respectively. Sean Gallup/ Getty Images Some people might tell you the world is getting smaller, and sometimes it seems that way. This is especially apparent in the things we buy. Many products you can find in the United States, such as clothing and toys, are manufactured overseas in countries like China and India. A lot of the gasoline someone might purchase to fill up a car probably comes from an oil refinery in a faraway country. Food grown on a farm in the Midwest can be shipped to the other side of the world in less than a day. The ubiquity of the Web has made these networks of trade even quicker to form and more complex. Anyone, no matter his or her interests, can surf the Internet for goods and services and make quick transactions. A student in New York City writing a major thesis on current Japanese animation can … [Read more...] about How does information technology work with trade laws?

" " The New England Compounding Center is shown here on Oct. 5, 2012. Until the Framingham, Mass., pharmacy landed in the news for the 2012 fungal meningitis outbreak, a lot of folks hadn't heard of these specialized pharmacies. Jared Wickerham/ Getty Images Compounding pharmacies don't usually get a lot of media coverage for good news. Until something goes wrong, safeguards aren't generally in place. First off, let's briefly outline what one of these places is. In the U.S., most drugs and medications are manufactured by large pharmaceutical companies. That means most prescriptions come in bulk: only certain potencies, forms or methods. A compounding pharmacy … [Read more...] about Are compounding pharmacies regulated?
