Can’t you give $3 million to help a Nigerian astronaut get home from his secret space mission? You know how these scams work by now: an email says that someone is in prison unjustly/kidnapped/exiled. They’re rich, but they can’t get to their money right now. If you help them out, they’ll reward you once they’re free. As the Internet argues over the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, a search is underway in Florida for what may be his fortune—or at least a part of it. An attorney representing the brother of one of the key players in Craig Wright’s Satoshi story told Gizmodo that he and his client are searching for “buried treasure.” When Wright, an Australian computer engineer and inventor, publicly claimed that he is Satoshi this week, he also alluded to receiving help from Dave Kleiman, a Palm Beach County-based computer forensics specialist who died in 2013. According to Wright, Kleiman provided extensive help with the writing of the so-called Bitcoin whitepaper, the document that introduced the digital currency to the world in 2008.
