With four-doors’ and crossovers crazily co-opting the mantle of Coupe,Nice Price or Crack Pipe Jetta around to legitimately own that I’m ashamed to admit that amongst the dozens of cars I’ve owned in my life, not a single one has been Italian. Oh, I’ve driven plenty of Italian cars, everything from lowly Fiats and an actual Innocenti Mini all the way up to Ferraris, Maseratis, and D Advertisement That likely would have all changed if yesterday’s 1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce had been within spitting distance of me. At $3,500, I could probably swing it, I do have one of those fancy new Apple Cards after all. I also didn’t think that any of the work it needed was beyond my skill level. Most of you agreed that it would have been a reasonably good idea, showering the car with praise in the comments and awarding it a solid 70 Now, I want to start out today’s discussion by first apologizing for featuring two VW’s this week. I do try to mix … [Read more...] about At $8,000, Is This R32-Swapped 1987 VW Jetta A Total Coupe De Grâce?

Hyundai has officially announced that the new N performance brand has whipped the current Veloster into sporting shape, and it’s ready to go toe-to-toe in a title fight with Volkswagen’s 7th generation GTI. While the 2019 Hyundai starts about $500 higher than the VW, at $26,900, the N offers an extra 30 horses—at 250 versus the GTI’s 220—in the stable. Advertisement Things get really interesting when you check the box for the N Performance Package, which nets you 275 horsepower, an electronically controlled limited slip, a performance exhaust, bigger brakes, and bigger wheels for $2100 extra. Unlike the GTI, however, the Veloster N is only available with a manual gearbox, which is great in my eyes, but will likely hamper sales in direct comparison with the German. Advertisement With the extra power, one could argue that the Veloster N is actually punching above its weight class, aiming for larger targets like the Civic Type R and VW’s Golf … [Read more...] about The 2019 Hyundai Veloster N Is Coming For The GTI’s Hot Hatch Lunch Money
The VW T3 Syncro is a tough but quirky machine, but you didn’t need me to tell you that. Just have a look at all the #vanlife posts on Instagram. Of course, before it was hauling hipsters out of Bushwick, it was doing real work in the South African Bush. South Africa has long been Volkswagen country. The Beetles there were unique hodgepodges of different trims and components not seen together anywhere else, it was there that the Mk1 Golf finally went out of production in 2009, and it’s in South Africa that someone supposedly dailies a one-off Beetle-based SUV prototype. Advertisement And when it came to the T3 Syncro, things were no different. Though all 4WD models were built in Graz, Austria, the South African-market model was unique. The locking front differential, optional in other markets, was standard, for example. The T3 Kombi, known as the Volksie Bus down there, wasso successful that the rear-wheel drive model managed to stay in production down there until … [Read more...] about A Volkswagen T3 Syncro Is What You Need To Stop The Bike Thieves In the South African Bush
As is tradition, Nintendo finished out the four-day marathon of E3 livestreams with its Direct presentation Tuesday morning. The big news? A full sequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We also got updates on Luigi’s Mansion, Animal Crossing, and a bunch of smaller announcements, plus two exciting new Smash characters. Games From Nintendo Advertisement The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in development. We didn’t get more than a teaser trailer, but it showed Link and Zelda exploring a dungeon together, so let your mind wander as far as what that might mean. Banjo-Kazooie and Dragon Quest’s Hero are the next two Smash Ultimate DLC fighters. While the bear and bird, formerly a Nintendo property but now Microsoft’s, might have seemed like a pipe dream, Nintendo’s big reveal at the end of its show was that Banjo and Kazooie are indeed coming to Smash this fall. Before that, this summer, will be The Hero, a single character that can … [Read more...] about Everything Nintendo Announced At E3 2019
The new, 2019 Mazda 3 isn’t just another sleek compact car (which we desperately need in today’s market). It also now comes packed with Mazda’s very fancy spark-controlled compression ignition engine, called the Skyactiv-X. Here’s what we have so far, thanks to another outlet that jumped the embargo gun just a bit and ran the story before it was supposed to go. Advertisement What do we know so far? Not a ton, except that as before the car’s expected to come in four- and five-door variants and should be priced to compete against the Honda Civics of the world, albeit with much more attractive looks and (theoretically) better driving dynamics. More details here: Advertisement Advertisement … [Read more...] about The 2019 Mazda 3 Looks Incredibly Good
